Hello out there, Game Changers! It’s time once again for this week’s #Tashatips. Let’s get right to it!
“Give it 110%!” is a phrase you’ve probably heard before; it means to put in your absolute maximum effort. If you think about it, it’s impossible to give 110%, but what about 100%? In softball, can we exert ourselves to our limits at all times?
If you’re constantly pushing to give 100%, you’ll likely suffer from burnout pretty quickly – #callback to last week’s tip! Softball can be mentally and physically exhausting, and if you’re pressuring yourself into being “on” at all times, you’ll become drained and overworked. This can detract from your athletic performance as well as your enjoyment of the sport.
So how can you give 100% effort 100% of the time – without feeling the effects of burnout? My answer? You can’t! Don’t pressure yourself to be high energy and high performance all the time. Your body and your brain deserve downtime to rest and rejuvenate.
You’ll need to work breaks into your daily schedule and practices so that you’ve got the stamina to give it your all when it really counts.
In today’s video, I’ll give you hints to help balance your energies. Watch to learn about:
- Doing activities in spurts
- Giving yourself “time outs” to recharge
- Allowing time to mentally check out, clear your mind, and refocus
Please like and share this video, and in the comments, let me know how you give yourself mental or physical breaks during your games and practices.
We’ll see you again next week!
